Fat Cats at Transport Canada

The CBC recently published an article highlighting waste in Transport Canada. Turns out the bureaucrats there are maintaining a fleet of Cessna Citations, Executive class jets more commonly used by rich CEO’s with money to burn. But Canada’s government doesn’t exactly have money to burn, we’re in the red, still running a deficit from stimulus spending. So the fact that Transport Canada is maintaining a fleet of nine of these aircraft is somewhat startling, though not unexpected. Bureaucratic waste is rampant in Ottawa, and it’s also exactly where we need to focus our spending cuts. What’s more, most of these aircraft are flying less than a hundred hours a year. The full costs of the aircraft are unknown, but it’s certainly far more than the commercial flights you or I would take.
